5.5 The Nature of Awen

Awen

An understanding of Awen is fundamental to Bardism.

Awen is the Welsh word for flowing spirit or inspiration.

Bards traditionally chant Awen three times to ask for inspiration. In effect it is asking for guidance and wisdom from spirit.

The symbol of the Awen is the three rays. For Bards it can be seen as three beams of inspiration.
