5.13 The Training of a Bard

The Story of Taliesin gives a grading system for the development of the Bard. In Celtic tradition the training of a Bard takes twelve years. The Bard should be equivalent in his skill as any other professional if they are to live up to the title of Bard.

The Bard also needs life experience to draw upon as well as knowledge. The journey of Taliesin, from Gwion to Penbeiridd is a format for Bardic development because each transformation offers a rich metaphor for a state of consciousness or awareness if we meditate on each of the animals/symbols as we come to it.
