From a Lesser Being

It makes no difference
if I call you wrong
or if I don’t
I know that you have the power
and that you will abuse me
but everyone does
so it makes no difference to me
I feel safe hearing you speak
I understand your use of language
I know how you think
and it intrigues me
the safety you inspire in your world
the security
the sense of righteousness that is your power
and your belief it makes the world a better place
to marginalize and discriminate against me
as a lesser person
I understand why you want to destroy hope
pushing those who don’t fit in your ideology
pushing people like me further into despair
yet all we want is to be
have the right to exist
that delicate dish we call freedom
you should try it
and soon

About Jez Farmer

I am a freelance writer and poet and started writing after raising my two boys as a way of discovering just who Jez is. That is still very much an on-going project but the journey so far has introduced me to many wonderful friends and fellow writers through an ever growing love of poetry.
