A Close Shave

The Poets' Garret

The Poets’ Garret

This is the moment of ultimate trust
When reclining in the soft leather chair
No time left for the fear in silent prayer
This is the moment of ultimate trust

When reclining in the soft leather chair
The only sound as he sharpens the steel
The heat of towels is all I can feel
When reclining in the soft leather chair

The only sound as he sharpens the steel
A foamy blanket of sweet sandalwood
A pause; my faith in his hand understood
The only sound as he sharpens the steel

A foamy blanket of sweet sandalwood
Falling away with his blade scraping skin
I think should I have warned my next-of-kin
A foamy blanket of sweet sandalwood

Falling away with his blade scraping skin
This is the moment of ultimate trust
The closest of shaves is do, die or bust
Falling away with his blade scraping skin

This is the moment of ultimate trust
When reclining in the soft leather chair
No time left for the fear in silent prayer
This is the moment of ultimate trust

About Jez Farmer

I am a freelance writer and poet and started writing after raising my two boys as a way of discovering just who Jez is. That is still very much an on-going project but the journey so far has introduced me to many wonderful friends and fellow writers through an ever growing love of poetry.
