Aubade Sonnet

The wholemeal toast upon the breakfast plate
The coffee cup so warm inside my hand
A normal day until my thoughts debate
The awakenings that I had not planned
Like a wave that strays upon the shore strand
And leaves a touch before it left to go
A touch I know so well and understand
The mind questions just what the heart can know
When did these feelings stop taking it slow
But I knew they would just like the morning dawns
On the night; the first rays an afterglow
And like the new day love then softly yawns
The feeling the mind cannot hold or tame
When there on the heart is written her name

About Jez Farmer

I am a freelance writer and poet and started writing after raising my two boys as a way of discovering just who Jez is. That is still very much an on-going project but the journey so far has introduced me to many wonderful friends and fellow writers through an ever growing love of poetry.
