A Poet’s Companion

A Poet's Compainion

The potter’s craft in mass production
alone by the steaming coffee pot
waiting in silence as dawn breaks
cold from the night
empty of warmth and flavour
it waits
upside down
waiting for the alarm to sound.

Dim light of early morning
falls gently on the creamy glaze
as stirring hands its body over
to receive the flowing stream
of black wakefulness that bids ‘good morning’
and the coffee cup’s work has begun.

Warming ceramic lover
held in a gentle embrace
releasing curls of aromatic invitation
to the cold air of morning
as the senses awaken in creativity
of the working day.

About Jez Farmer

I am a freelance writer and poet and started writing after raising my two boys as a way of discovering just who Jez is. That is still very much an on-going project but the journey so far has introduced me to many wonderful friends and fellow writers through an ever growing love of poetry.
