Let Sleeping Cats Lie

Let Sleeping Cats Lie

She didn’t like cats
cussing under her breath
as the pesky tabby from
next door pulled next year’s daffodils
from their beds to the path
while she pegged washing on the line.

As she folded tea towels and sheets
she whispered kindly
to a scrap of white
caught out in the summer rain
as he enjoyed fresh single cream
from the blue striped jug
she kept in the fridge.

Later as she baked a mince
and onion pie
fish ends simmered gently
in a pan of Jersey milk
for her companion
who was sleeping on her chair.

About Jez Farmer

I am a freelance writer and poet and started writing after raising my two boys as a way of discovering just who Jez is. That is still very much an on-going project but the journey so far has introduced me to many wonderful friends and fellow writers through an ever growing love of poetry.
