Haibun Thinking: Crushed

Each week Haibun Thinking challenges the writer to pen a Haibun from a given prompt. This week the prompt is freestyle and I have chosen to use the word ‘freestyle’ as my lead.

If you want to join the challenge pop over to Haibun Thinking

This my response to the challenge:

Crushed

‘Don’t be stupid! You can’t do that!’

‘STOP right where you are!’

‘Don’t touch that!’

Whatever I tried I met the same wall of put-downs and rejections.

‘Just be yourself, kid!’

‘Follow your dreams’

‘It’s your life, mate!’

Yea! Everybody tells me that and when I try and see it through it is the same negative comments that cut into me.

‘Compromise!’

‘Meet in the middle.’

Why is it that means sacrificing everything for what somebody else wants? And then if I do it is thrown back at me with the same old put-downs. They say they love me because I am different then want to change me so I am the same.

About Jez Farmer

I am a freelance writer and poet and started writing after raising my two boys as a way of discovering just who Jez is. That is still very much an on-going project but the journey so far has introduced me to many wonderful friends and fellow writers through an ever growing love of poetry.

  2. Anja says:

Fabulous…you said so much with so few words. The last line and haiku are just amazing.

  3. Al says:

I think this is a fantastic haibun, Jeremy. Your freestyle certainly knew where it was going.

    Fantastic 🙂
