Tug of War

A battle waits and only strength can win
The old must die for the new to begin
While battle worn, devoid of all but hope
Beguiled by hate a soldier stakes his claim
In fireside stories refusing to mope
His inner resources taking up the strain
As fears and doubts have left the rope too slack
Each opportunity gilded in pain
Yet there is no way of turning time back
Avoiding the blows of counter attack
From the self there is no way to elope
Until the good bye to all that has been
And the soul is free to dance in the rain
To the sweet music that carries no shame

About Jez Farmer

I am a freelance writer and poet and started writing after raising my two boys as a way of discovering just who Jez is. That is still very much an on-going project but the journey so far has introduced me to many wonderful friends and fellow writers through an ever growing love of poetry.

  1. That shame you speak of does hold us back.. Here’s to freeing the souls! Your poem is beautiful, Jem.
